Former Boston College forward Paul Keegan’s 88th-minute goal qualified the Revolution for the MLS playoffs in the final game of the season. Keegan, an early substitute for Imad Baba (injured after a Wade Webber tackle from behind), scored his only goal of the season off a throw-in from current Revolution general manager Mike Burns.

Fall River’s John Souza scored the second goal as the U.S. took a 4-0 lead over the Cubans, virtually clinching a berth in the 1950 World Cup. Steve Ralston opened the scoring with a 55th-minute finish into an open net after Oguchi Onyewu headed an Eddie Lewis free kick off the left post as the U.S. qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. DaMarcus Beasley added a 62nd-minute goal. Ralston made 15 of his 36 international appearances in 2005 but was not selected for the World Cup finals team. Frank Dell'Apa

Frank Dell’Apa began covering soccer in the days of the original NASL. He was the Boston Globe’s soccer columnist for nearly 23 years before being recruited to work for a start-up television network in Miami. In late 2014, he returned to Boston, where he is based as a freelance journalist. Dell’Apa has covered seven World Cups, MLS since the league started, and continues to be involved with the NASL as part of a New York Cosmos Podcast.
