The Boston Celtics turned professional in August, 1936, moving from the Boston and District League to the ASL. The Maccabees (Maccabi Tel Aviv) arrived on a 13-city North American tour after winning the Palestine League.

Estacio (Stacy) DeCastro set a collegiate record in a game against Unity and totaled 62 goals in the 1973 season and 166 career goals for the Eagles. Oct. 28, 1916 – J&P Coats 0:1 Fall River Rovers at Lonsdale Avenue Ground, Pawtucket, R.I.
U.S. national team captain Tommy Swords scored a 71st-minute goal off a rebound of a Cullerton shot saved by Knowles. The Rovers would return to the Lonsdale Ground to capture the 1917 National Challenge Cup (U.S. Open Cup) title, a 1-0 victory over Bethlehem Steel.

Wolde Harris’ 30th-minute deflected free kick past Kevin Hartman opened the scoring, and the Revolution appeared capable of pulling off an upset until late in the second half. Ezra Hendrickson equalized with a 69th-minute blooping cross over Jose Carlos Fernandez and Danny Califf headed in a 91st-minute golden goal off a Cobi Jones corner.
