Edmund Smith opened the scoring in the second half as Shawsheen Indians continued their path to the 1925 U.S. Open Cup championship. Smith played for Arboath FC in Scotland, then joined Shawsheen and Bethlehem Steel, earning a cap for the U.S. national team in 1926. Smith resided in Andover, Mass., for most of his life. Dec. 26, 1924 – Shawsheen FC granted ASL franchise

Shawsheen FC, which won the 1924 National Challenge Cup (U.S. Open Cup) title, competed on “… one of the finest soccer grounds in the country,” according to the Boston Globe. Frank Dell’Apa began covering soccer in the days of the original NASL.
