Abbot Worsted AFC twice reached the National Challenge Cup (U.S. Open Cup) semifinals and won the 1921 and ’22 Massachusetts State Cup title. “We are not satisfied to play second fiddle to any team in this State. With the record that my team has had in the last three seasons no team has a better right to be in the forefront of professional soccer in the East than our Forge Village outfit.” — J.C. Abbot

Frank Dell'Apa

Frank Dell’Apa began covering soccer in the days of the original NASL. He was the Boston Globe’s soccer columnist for nearly 23 years before being recruited to work for a start-up television network in Miami. In late 2014, he returned to Boston, where he is based as a freelance journalist. Dell’Apa has covered seven World Cups, MLS since the league started, and continues to be involved with the NASL as part of a New York Cosmos Podcast.
