“Bethlehem Steel [8W-2L-3D, 19 points] assumed the lead in the American Soccer League …” on a hat trick by Dan McNiven, overtaking Fall River (8W-3L-2D, 18 points), which was tied for second with J&P Coats (8-3-2, 18 points). He was the Boston Globe’s soccer columnist for nearly 23 years before being recruited to work for a start-up television network in Miami.
