Eusebio and Pelé met in a competitive match for the first time since the 1966 World Cup as the Boston Minutemen took a 2-1 extra time win over the New York Cosmos.

U.S. goes three-and-out in first World Cup finals appearance since 1950.

June 18, 2016 — Argentina 4:1 Venezuela, Copa America Centenario quarterfinals, Gillette Stadium (Att.: 59,183)

Lionel Messi (60’) scored in first Gillette Stadium appearance as Argentina advanced to the Copa America Centenario semifinals. Gonzalo Higuain (8’, 28’) opened the scoring, Jose Salomon Rondon (70’) cut the deficit and substitute Erik Lamela (71’) concluded the scoring. Sergio Romero saved an attempted chipped penalty kick by Venezuela’s Luis Seijas (43’).

June 17, 1970 – Santos FC 1:0 AC Milan, Everett Stadium (Att.: 18,000 est.)

The Santos-Milan game was played in a tense atmosphere, as spectators were also tuned in to shortwave radio reports of the Italy v West Germany World Cup semifinal match being contested in Mexico City. Both teams were missing World Cup players, but most of the starters were available for this game.

Landon Donovan and Carlos Bocanegra scored for the U.S., Blas Perez cutting Panama’s  deficit in the 84th minute of a Gold Cup/MLS “tripleheader.”

June 15, 1949 – New England All-Stars 1:3 Scotland at Fall River, Mass. (Att.: 4,045)

Scotland had an 8W-1L-0D record, losing, 2-0, to Belfast Celtic at Triborough Stadium on Randall’s Island in New York on May 29, 1949, on a North American tour.
