Alex McNab opened the scoring and 19-year-old Bert Patenaude added the second goal for the Fall River Marksmen. Patenaude replaced Milton Gavin, a former Lusitania Recreation center forward; Patenaude joined Lusitania later in his career, after teaming with 20-year-old Billy Gonsalves (also a former Lusitania Recreation star) to lead the U.S. in the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930. Frank Dell’Apa began covering soccer in the days of the original NASL. He was the Boston Globe’s soccer columnist for nearly 23 years before being recruited to work for a start-up television network in Miami. In late 2014, he returned to Boston, where he is based as a freelance journalist. Dell’Apa has covered seven World Cups, MLS since the league started, and continues to be involved with the NASL as part of a New York Cosmos Podcast.
