Sept. 18, 1894 – Boston Beaneaters begin training

Boston was among six teams in the American League of Professional Football, finishing in third place (4W-1L-0D, 8 points) as the season was called off early. Teams were organized by National League baseball owners, hoping to utilize stadia while baseball teams were away. Boston played at the South End Grounds. “Boston Capt. Puleston had his men out for work both morning and afternoon … at the South end grounds. … players will wear a black uniform with a white belt and cap. In the home games every team will be obliged to wear white shirts.” (The Boston Globe)
