Joe Kennaway makes Celtic debut.
Oct. 31, 1929 – Providence Gold Bugs 2:1 Boston Wonder Workers, exhibition night game, Kinsley Park
Kinsley Park, torn down in 1933, played host to the first NFL night game the following week. Joe Kennaway was Providence goalkeeper from 1927-30, then joined the Fall River Marksmen. Kennaway impressed Celtic FC manager Willie Maley during a 1-0 Fall River victory on May 31, 1931 and later that year joined the Bhoys, following the death of John Thomson. Kennaway played for Celtic from 1931-39, winning two Scottish League championships, two Scottish Cups and the 1938 Empire Exhibition Trophy. Kennaway, who played for Canada and Scotland, coached Brown University from 1946-59.

Oct. 31, 1913 – “Girls to Play Soccer” – More than 200 of the 750 girls at [Brockton] High School have signified a desire to play soccer football and they will report at the Cross St. grounds next Monday afternoon to start practice. … Miss Elanor A. Moody, physical instructor at the High School, issued a call for soccer candidates … Some of the girls have attempted the game and it is said they can boot the ball as far as some boys. An attempt to interest the boys in soccer has failed; at least not enough have signified their intention of play to form an interclass league.”

“… the increasing popularity of soccer has at last reached Tech [MIT]. Under the direction of Maj. Briggs of the athletic department plans have been so far advanced that active practice will begin in about a week.
