Celtic FC avenged a May 31 loss (at Fenway Park) to the newly-named New York Yankees, formerly the Fall River Marksmen.

Celtic compiled an 8W-3L-1D record, playing 12 games in nine North American cities from May 23-June 30, 1931. Celtic lost consecutive games to the Yankees (4-3), Fall River FC (1-0) and Pawtucket Rangers (3-1) from May 30-June 6. Billy Gonsalves scored three goals for the Yankees in the Fenway Park game, earning praise from Celtic manager Willie Maley, but was stifled at Yankee Stadium.
