Two Gabriel Batistuta goals (2, 44) gave Argentina a 2-0 halftime lead in the Albiceleste’s World Cup ’94 opener. Diego Maradona (60) and Batistuta (penalty kick) upped the lead, launching Argentina into a favorite’s role. The World Cup kicked off on June 17, 1994, Argentina setting up training camp at Babson College in Wellesley. And, apparently, the Seleccion’s training staff went shopping on Tremont Street in Boston, purchasing the substance containing ephedrine that ended up getting Maradona suspended.
