The Fall River Rovers handed the Free Wanderers their first home defeat and went on to win the American FA Cup for the second successive year. The Rovers outscored foes, 24-1, in winning five successive games in the tournament. The Rovers had a 9-0-0 record (41-4 goal differential) in the 1888 and ’89 events.

“The hour set for the kick-off was 3 p.m. and by that time there were 6,000 people on the ground and still more outside the gates waiting to get in. Betting was heavy with odds of 10 to 6 on the Rovers.”

Rowe played as a starter in the Revolution’s 2012 season-opener at San Jose (1-0 loss). Rowe, who earned a callup to the U.S. national team last year, totaled 226 matches and 36 goals (eighth on the team all-time list) in all competitions before being traded to Sporting Kansas City.
