Center halfback Jimmy Montgomerie made his ASL debut for the New Bedford Whalers. Montgomerie, who was awarded the Military Medal and Military Cross with bar serving in the Canadian Army in World War I, was born in Scotland and played for the Montreal Highlanders and Grenadier Guards. Montgomerie played most of his ASL career with the Whalers, totaling 303 games and 45 goals and was nicknamed “Iron Man Monty” after performing in 208 consecutive matches. Montgomerie also served in World War II, stationed in the Middle East and North Africa.
