Post by

Yale and Eton competed in possibly the first 11-a-side game conducted using Football Association rules in the U.S. FA rules were established in London in 1863, then adopted by the Scottish FA in 1873. The U.S. was the third country to endorse the regulations, during a meeting of collegiate representatives (Harvard was conspicuously absent) at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York on Oct. 19, 1873. The match was the first between a British team and a foreign team.
