April 20, 2002 – Taylor Twellman scores his first goal for Revolution

Taylor Twellman went on to total 101 goals in 174 regular-season games (.583 strike rate), becoming the first player in MLS history with more than 100 goals scored in less than 200 matches. Twellman totaled 119 goals in 211 matches in all competitions for the Revolution from 2002-10.

“About 2,500 people witnessed the game today between the Rovers and 11 crack players selected from the Harney (cq – Kearney) Rangers, Caledonians and O.N.T.’s of New Jersey.” Rovers took a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Bradley (6’), Bruckshaw and Cornell. McCaully cut the deficit … “This acted like magic upon the visitors and they renewed their rushing tactics with increased energy and the finest exhibition of foot ball playing ever seen here was the result. The picked team kept the sphere dangerously near the Rovers goal and many brilliant dashes were made to force it between the posts, but Shea, at the goal, prevented the visitors from again scoring.” Note: Shea is likely Dennis Shay.

April 20, 1916 – Fore River 1:2 New Bedford Whalers, State Cup series quarterfinals at Fore River Athletic Field, Quincy, Mass.

Fore River protest of Patriots’ Day game upheld, plus a $10 fine imposed on Whalers for using Dixon, formerly of New Bedford Celtic, who was considered a professional.
