Sept. 8, 1968 – Boston Beacons’ final match at Fenway Park

After finishing in last place in the NASL Atlantic Division with a 9W-17L-6D record, the Boston Beacons announced the team was seeking a buyer. Average attendance was 4,373 for 15 matches, the Beacons declaring losses of about $500,000 in their only season.

Beacons’ general manager Joe McKenney told The Boston Globe’s Bob Sales: “I tell you, if I had a few bucks I’d put it into this game. … I think somebody is going to make a lot of money out of this game someday.”

Boston Beacons 1:0 Baltimore Bays at Fenway Park (Att.: 3,764).

Argentinian forward Ruben “Marqués” Sosa, formerly of Racing, scored off a John Liposinovic feed.
