Oct. 16, 1905 – Greater Boston 0:5 Pilgrims at South End Grounds (Att.: 3,000)

Center forward Vivian J Woodward, scored twice for the Pilgrims, an English team that won 11 of 12 games (72-7 goal differential) on a two-month tour of the U.S. Woodward starred for Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and was the England national team’s leading scorer. The Pilgrims took a 4-3 win over an All-Fall River team before an 8,000 crowd on Oct. 14, 1905.

According to the Boston Globe, captain F.H. Milnes and his teammates visited President Roosevelt after playing in Philadelphia, and a return match was proposed for Crystal Palace grounds in April, 1907.

On a 1909 tour, the Pilgrims had a 16W-2L-4D record (123-12 goal differential), drawing (1-1) on Nov. 10, 1909 and losing (2-1) on Nov. 13, 1909 in Fall River.
