Aug. 9, 1968 – Boston Beacons 2:2 New York Generals at Fenway Park

Post by

Substitute Ivica “John” Liposinovic’s 88th-minute deflected shot equalized for the Beacons, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit, playing at a numerical disadvantage after the ejection of Billy Fraser. Orlando Rijzenburg scored the first Beacon goal, after former Santos star Eliseu had set up Dieter Perau for a seventh-minute goal and scored in the 25th minute. Ethiopian forward Yilma Ketema missed a penalty kick for the Beacons, who “gave an exhibition on how not to score goals,” according to Peter Gammons’ story in the Boston Globe. Liposinovic played at Dinamo Zagreb and First Vienna FC before joining the Breakers.
